Honorable Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the minister of information in Ghana, in a press briefing in Accra has confirmed the number of schools with Covid-19 positive cases. He has assured all parents and Ghanaians that measures have been put in place in these schools, to contain and curb the spread of the virus to other students and staff. The affected students are said to be in isolation and receiving treatment at the moment.
6 students are reported to have tested positive for the virus in Accra Girls Senior High. A teacher and his spouse are said to have also tested positive as reported by myjoyonline.com, making the total number of cases there 8. Contact tracing has identified 648 people who had come into contact with these infected people, they are also to be tested.
In the Central region, Wesley Girls High School have also recorded two positive cases.
Contrary to earlier reports by some media outlets, Odorgonno senior high school is still free of the virus. Rather, a parent reported to the school the positive status of her final year son, who couldn’t come to school because he tested positive and is receiving treatment at the moment
Some perturbed parents of the students are however inflamed and want to withdraw their kids from school, but under present conditions, they are not allowed to. The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has assured parents that everything is under control.
