Success Lessons Sarkodie Taught Us

I must say Sarkodie must always be applauded and celebrated for his achievements, exploits and great success. The ‘King’ did not just become one of Africa’s biggest music icons overnight- He burnt the night candle and believed in himself even when according to him, his closest relatives did not give him a dog chance to make it this big in the music scene, he proved them wrong.

His rise from the streets of Tema to become undisputably the biggest music export from Ghana and one of the richest musician on the African continent are everyday lessons you should familiarize yourself with.
Here are 5 lessons Sarkodie taught us.

1. Believe in your potential
Sarkodie has on countless times indicated that people didn’t believe in his potential when he wanted to be a rapper. Even the closest friends and family members taught he will never succeed in the music game.
According to King Sark, self-belief made him who he is today because he was very timid growing up.
According to him, He during he faced a lot of difficulties during his childhood days with a guardian and the only thing that got him going was writing music.
Sarkodie was desperate to do music and at a point when people turned deaf ears to his talent, he rapped at somebody’s funeral where the dead body was lying there.
Having met Dr. Duncan and subsequently meeting Da Hammer of the Last 2, he quickly became a household name after surviving numerous rap battles and having himself featured on Edem’s Volta Regime Album.
Had he given up on his dreams when people despised and never believed in him, he wouldn’t have been the Sarkodie we all know.
2. Do not forsake the very people who were with you when you were a nobody when you become somebody.
During the early days of Sarkodie’s career when nobody knew him, some few people around him gave him a helping hand one way or the other. He had the likes of Angel Town DJ Mensah, Tracy Sarkcess, Dr. Duncan, Sammy Forson and a couple of others.
These guys have been the backbone of his success and wisely enough, he has maintained very cool relationships with them over time.
After breaking away from Duncwills Entertainment to form his Sarkcess Music label, some people thought his relationship with his premier management had gone sour but that wasn’t the case. He has maintained a very cool relationship with Dr. Duncan and to date, Dr. Duncan has been in the background doing one or two things to push team Sarkodie.
Tracy Sarkcess has been with Sarkodie for a longer time when he was the Sarkodie we know now. Throwback pictures of the two confirm that the two started dating when Sarkodie was not in his prime. Tracy, however, believed in his man and stayed with him until Sarkodie repaid her trust by finally putting a ring on her finger to make her his wife.
The likes of Angel Town, DJ Mensah are Sarkodie’s road manager and DJ respectively have all been with Sarkodie since day one continues to be with him till now. Having realized that these people worked hard for me during his hard times to his glory days, Obidi does what is required of him in terms of monetary reward to keep these guys supporting him 24/7

3. Persevere with your dream until you become successful
Of course, his songs were loved by many in Ghana but people did not believe Sarkodie when he initially said he will cross borders with his songs as many thought the ‘Twi’ language would become a stumbling block to his career internationally. However, that has not been the case. With perseverance and hard work, Sarkodie’s songs reached international scene and he became a global icon with a handful of international awards including a two time BET award winner in 2014 and 2019, Daf BAMA Awards(Best African Act) in 2017, Best Hip Hop Act at MTV Africa Music Awards in 2014, African Legend Artiste of the year Award Winner at the Africa Entertainment Legend Awards in 2016 plus a host of wins in other internationally recognized awards.
Sarkodie has on countless occasions declared in interviews and most of his songs that the Grammy awards are his target and we believe it is an achievement not far from his reach.
