Doing music is not a joke business. Its either you are fully prepared to enter the game or the game exposes your laziness and weak talent. Some musicians had the prospect of putting their career at the very apex but woefully failed to do so. Others have retired and others recording one or two songs once a while but it appears Ghanaians have already shown them the ‘red card’ hence their music is no more patronized.
The list below is talents who were expected to take over the country taken into consideration their strong entry into the industry but have had their dreams cut short.

1. Stay Jay
Stay Jay makes the list taken into consideration his strong start to his music career and at a point was one of the hottest artistes in the country. He was adjudged the ‘Best New Artiste’ at the 2012 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) after releasing his first album Repetition under his first record label Unda One Entertainment which had songs like Sue and Shasheewowo. He gained 6 nominations that very year which signified that he had indeed arrived.
He followed up with Twaa me Laala and My Baby which received massive airplay across the country.
Prepaid girl,S3 aba, adey do my thing were projects released by Stay Jay and they performed well on the charts.

Stay Jay later formed a temporal alliance with Kumawood star cum musician Lilwin and as many predicted, his career dwindled slowly even after releasing Wo to Mpo Ni and I don’t think far remix.
He recently released a couple of songs including Chocolate featuring Kumami Eugene but it appears he has already lost the cutting edge that gave him hits back in the days.
Although he had a fairly illustrious career, everyone who followed Stay Jay’s talent will agree that he could have done better.

2. Dadie Opanka
The rise of Tema boys in music had this gentleman who was loved for his melodic rhymes stepping out. Dadie Opanka burst onto the scene with a mixtape titled Tie Tie which he delivered some hot punch lines on it. With a just single mixtape, he started performing on shows in and outside Accra. He followed up with a couple of ‘head-nodding’ mixtapes which made many people believed as a good prospect for the industry. Among the songs he released at the time, Taste was the only song that performed fairly well.

He went on hibernation for a while after releasing Abuburo Kosua featuring Gifty Osei which did quite well and bounced back in 2016 with Wedding Car which was a hit. However, unfortunately, Daddie Opanka has gone back to sleep with his ability to reach his full potential still in limbo.
Even though the accomplishments of Opanka are fairly good, an artiste who sprung up with Sarkodie could have done better musically.

3 Yaa Pono
A pioneer of the Tema Music era and a hardcore rapper. Yaa Pono was at a point in time rated a better rapper than Sarkodie. His hard and comic lines made people fall in love with his rap instantly and gained a lot of popularity in Ghana after making his debut on Kasahare level on Adom 106.3FM
Consequently, Yaa Pono lost it all in mainstream music even though he was a very good freestylist.

He has released a lot of songs but the number of hit songs which are widely known could be counted as his diss to Shatta Wale titled Gbee Naabu, Amen, Zongo Girl and Obiaa Wo Ne Master.
For a great lyricist like Yaa Pono, we believe he did not reach his full potential as we expected him to do better.

4. Teephlow
Of course, this list cannot be complete without including Teephlow.
Teephlow was regarded as the ‘next big thing’ in Ghana Music but very unfortunately for him, he has had a quite stagnant career despite his ability to have won Record of the year Album at 2017 VGMAs.
His debut single Alkhayeeda was widely accepted and well played. He released a couple of good songs and mixtapes and finally got signed by Hammah of The Last 2.

He later landed a feature with Sarkodie on The Warning and from there, many people believe that was the beginning of good things to come from the camp of Teephlow
Of course, Teephlow cannot be faulted as he remains a very talented rapper. The problem is his unwillingness to do commercial songs that have listening appeal. He is much more concentrated on rap music which in effect ha slowed his growth in the music industry.

5. Cwesi Oteng
Cwesi Oteng was tipped to become a huge success in gospel music when started his urban gospel which was quite unique from the normal gospel songs. People fell in love with his style. He released I win and Count your blessings all in 2013 and followed up with God Dey Bless Me– very nice songs which were played all over, and it sounded like the beginning of very good things to come for Cwesi but that hasn’t been the case. Very little has been heard about Cwesi Oteng lately and his music has failed to make strides.

For someone who was described as the ‘golden boy’ of gospel music in Ghana to have such a downturn career, it is fair to say failed to reach his potential as a musician.
